While 17 European countries, including France, Germany and the United Kingdom, proclaim their “deep concern about the deteriorating situation in Georgia…”, the Georgian Dream publishes, in response, a long, convoluted press release, the only merit of which is to remind us of its true face…
Certainly, for nearly 3 years, repressive laws had been piling up. Certainly, relations with the European Union had been brutally severed. It was true that peaceful demonstrators were prosecuted outside any democratic legality…
But there was still a “pro-European declarative”, which could be seen as an illusion in the eyes of the public. With this new communiqué, the Georgian Dream echoes the rhetoric of the most anti- European parties, from Viktor Orban to Marine Le Pen, who claim that:
- the European Union wants to impose its will on sovereign countries.
- in EU countries, opposition is muzzled and opponents persecuted.
- there is no real freedom for the media, which take their orders from those in power
- Europe has lost its “sense of values”.
- the “deep state” rules…
The subtext is crystal-clear: the European Union, identified as a priority adversary, must be destroyed…
Meanwhile, Russia, with an identical agenda, rubs its hands while bombing our Ukrainian friends.
