Provocation or stupidity?

A member of the European Union delegation prevented from entering Georgia. Provocation or stupidity?

On May 21, Simon Vanderbrouck, an accredited member of an EU delegation, was turned away at Tbilisi airport. This is not an isolated incident. For several months now, several journalists and members of NGOs have been banned from crossing the border. However, this is the first time that a European Union diplomat has been targeted. This incident takes place against a backdrop of mistrust on the part of the Georgian government towards Western diplomats, who are regularly criticized… The most recent example being that
of the German ambassador, who was insulted in public during a meeting in Batumi by a Georgian Dream activist…

“It’s a technical error, the incident is closed, Mr. Vanderbrouck can return to Georgia”, declared a member of the Interior Ministry cabinet sometime after the incident. Too late no doubt, the damage had been done, and the provocation is hardly in doubt…
